Papers, Please puts you at a booth at the border checkpoint of a communist state in 1982, stamping passports against an ever-thickening rulebook while your family needs heat, food, and medicine. The genius is mechanical: every moral compromise — the smuggler, the bribe, the desperate traveler with the wrong expiry date — is also a puzzle move. Lucas Pope built the whole thing largely alone.
